ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR TIRE RECYCLERS CHALLENGES

In the used tire industry, AI is opening up new possibilities for efficiency, precision, and sustainability. Sorting and recycling tires are a complex process that demands accurate data collection. The challenge lies not only in gathering this data correctly but also in doing so at an industrial cadence.
As used tires have relatively low value, profitability depends on processing large volumes at high speeds. Misclassification or data errors can lead to financial losses and negative environmental impacts. AI plays a crucial role in the identification of data on used tires, reading on real situation tires with dirt, mud, water ensuring that each tire is correctly identified and directed to the appropriate recycling application, all while maintaining the necessary speed for industrial-scale operations.
A.I. AT REGOM: INNOVATING USED TIRE IDENTIFICATION
At Regom, we've developed AI-based technology to tackle this critical issue. Our identification and sorting machine uses advanced cameras to capture high-resolution images of tires. These images are then analyzed by AI algorithms developed in-house.
We developed our A.I. system since 8 years working on different algorithms to be able to read characters on tire’s flanc. Based on our knowledge we are able to determine even missing characters.
This ability to analyze and infer missing information is a significant advantage for tire sorting operations. It ensures that each tire is properly identified and directed to the appropriate end-use, whether it's resale for a second life, retreading, or shredding for material recovery applications.
THE BENEFITS OF AI IN THE TIRE RECYCLING PROCESS
Integrating AI into our operations offers several benefits:
Operational Efficiency: Automating the reading and sorting process allows us to handle more tires in less time and numerous process optimizations.
Increased Precision: Our AI's ability to read partially erased or unreadable characters significantly reduces errors in collecting accurate data and in selecting the appropriate recycling outflow.
Waste Reduction: By ensuring accurate classification, our technology minimizes the risk of misdirecting tires, reducing waste and improving recycling rates.
Artificial intelligence isn't just a technological trend; it's redefining how industries operate, particularly in the field of used tire recycling. At Regom, we're proud to be at the forefront of this revolution, using AI to make our processes more efficient, precise, and sustainable. With our innovative technology, we're contributing to a future where every used tire is optimally valued, benefiting the circular economy and our planet.
